The Staff: A Ski Bum Musical - 72hr Filmmaker Showdown WINNER!

I had the privileged of working together with Patrick Henry and Johnny Fleet of Foresight Pictures on a 72 Hr Filmmaker Showdown entry this past year.

The idea was a musical, an overwhelming project to pull off in 72hrs (3 days) no doubt, but we gave it a shot. With an exceptional, multi-talented team and such a efficient work flow we were able to pull it off successfully.

The night of the screening had 1700+ people giving us a standing ovation for the film.

Shot on a HVX 200a during the summer and fall seasons of 2008 with the use of dolly's, cranes and zip lines.

Location : Sea to Sky Corridor(Vancouver - Whistler British Columbia: Canada)

Produced By: Justin Hannewyk, Taylor Loughran, Matthieu Preville

Communication was key to getting this shot. I love this shot because Maxim's small stance and body placement make him inferior yet dominant over this natural terrain.

With perfect form, Tommy aligns this switch Dbl Japan 720 over a 60ft table top. This image captures Tommy’s moment of clarity and focus during the first moments of launch. The clouds parted and sun peaked through with perfect timing, emphasizing Tommy’s line of sight.

Maxim is a big mountain skier that radiates a strong, confident and powerful style. After many tedious attempts for the perfect shot, I finally captured Maxim in his moment; My equipment and I took a beating after this power turn.

Long waits, blasting winds and nearly frozen fingers proceeded to test my limits as I huddled to nurture my camera equipment with my remaining body heat. With a video camera running beside me, no radios and a broken tripod, I hand held my camera and shot this photo from a neighboring mountain. I finally got frame, and captured this big mountain moment of Max's powerful style. Fissile in the back.

Sat myself on the quarter pipe hit at the end of the black park. I used the sun for back light and my 550ex flash for fill.

Happy with the results

Bluebird sky's 20 fresh cm and Peak Chair just opened from a three day closure. I had a rider bail on me so after a few runs I sat myself in front the waterfall cliffs.

I overheard a few hard accented English speaking riders that were verbally sizing up the cliff. Only the 3rd rider landed it and I grabbed this shot. I love the facial expression

On our way to Decker, Max and I ran into this vacationing Ski Patroller from eastern Canada. Maxim takes a moment to explain the game plan. The Ski Patroller later told us that it was the best decent of his life.
